Everything You Need To Know About The Royal Danish Opera’s 2017-18 Season

The Royal Danish Opera has announced its 2017-18 season with a varied repertoire.

The opera season opens on Sept. 9, 2017, with a new production of Verdi’s “Rigoletto” starring Johan Reuter in the title character. David Kempster alternates with Reuter as Paolo Carignani conducts the run.

The following production will be Puccini’s “Madama Butterfly” with Elizabeth Llewellyn in the title role.  The production opens on Sept. 17, 2017.

Svitlana Azarova’s “Momo” will receive a world premiere in a new production by Anna-Maria Helsing. Anke Briegel stars in the title role with the premiere on Oct. 15, 2017.

On Nov. 11, 2017, Puccini’s “La Fanciulla del West” will get a new production starring Ann Petersen in the title role with Reuter as Jack Rance.

A revival of Mozart’s “Die Zauberflöte” premieres on Nov. 25, 2017, with Reuter as the speaker while Berg’s “Lulu” opens on Jan 4 with Gert Henning-Jensen as the lead.

Rossini’s “The Barber of Seville” will then open on Jan. 27, 2018, and Thomas Adès’ “The Exterminating Angel” will make its Danish premiere conducted by Robert Houssart on March 23, 2018.

Pier Giorgio-Morandi leads Verdi’s “Otello” starting on April 29, 2018. Roy Cornelius Smith stars in the title role. Verdi’s “La Traviata,” Poulenc’s “Dialogues of the Carmelites,” a gala concert and Donizetti’s “L’Elisir D’amore” will also be part of next season.
