Everything You Need To Know About the Komische Oper Berlin 2017-18 Season

The Komische Oper Berlin has announced its 2017-18 season with a number of revivals and new productions.

New Productions 

The season will open with Debussy’s “Pelléas et Mélisande” with Dominik Königer and Jonathan McGovern as Pelléas and Nadja Mchantaf as Mélisande. The production will be directed by Barry Kosky.

Stefan Cifolelli leads the ensemble cast in Phillip Glass’s monumental opera “Satyagraha.” Jonathan Stockhammer leads the orchestra in a production by Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui.

Franz Schreker’s “Die Gezeiten” will also be staged by the company with Joachim Goltz, Michael Nagy, and Jens Larsen. Renown director Calixto Bieto directs the production.

Anne Sophie Von Otter will present a program of Cabaret and lieder from Kurt Weill and Paul Dessau among others.

Handel’s “Semele” will also be staged with Nicole Chevalier in the title role.

Shostakovich’s “The Nose” will be staged by Barrie Kosky with a cast that includes Günter Papendell and Jens Larsen. The staging is a co-production with the Royal Opera and the Teatro Real.

The company will also present the operetta “Marchen in Grand Hotel” by Paul Abraham, “Blaubart” by Offenbach in a production by Stefan Herheim.

Revivals 

Among the revivals being presented include Rossini’s “Il Barbiere di Siviglia,” Stravinsky’s “Petrushka” with Ravel’s “L’enfant et les sortilèges,” Tchaikovsky’s “Eugene Onegin,” Handel’s “Xerxes,” Oscar Straus’ “Die Perlen der Cleopatra,” Mozart’s “Don Giovanni,” Offenbach’s “La belle Hélène,” Bizet’s “Carmen” and Mozart’s “The Abduction from the Seraglio.”

Other works include Oscar Straus’ “Eine Frau, die weiß, was sie will! and Mozart’s “Don Giovanni.”
