The Deutsche Oper am Rhein has announced its 2017-18 season, which will feature 10 new productions and 19 revivals for a total of 29 works. Here is a breakdown of the major operas and stars appearing with the company next season.

The Ring

The big announcement for the company is the return of Wagner’s “Der Ring des Nibelungen.” Two new productions will appear in 2017-18 with the tetralogy being completed in 18-19.

The New Productions

The company will put on eight other new productions of such classics as “Wozzeck,” “Madama Butterfly,” “Maria Stuarda” and “Don Pasquale” in addition to new showcases of such rare gems as “Gullivers Reise,” “Wo Die Wilden Kerle Wohnen,” a double bill of “Petrushka” and “L’Enfant et les Sortilèges” and a double bill of “Pygmalion” and “Ariadne.”

Revivals

Verdi fans will be treated to three works by the famed composer, including “Aida,” “Rigoletto” and “Un Ballo in Maschera.”

For those who prefer Puccini, “Turandot,” “Il Trittico” and “Tosca” will get center stage alongside the new “Butterfly” production.

Mozart’s “Die Entführung aus dem Serail,” “Die Zauberflöte” and “Le Nozze di Figaro” will also get showcases.

Richard Strauss’ “Der Rosenkavalier” will be the only work from the German composer, while “Peter Grimes” is Britten’s only representative on the program. The same goes for “Hänsel und Gretel,” Der Graf von Luxemburg,” “Les Contes d’Hoffmann,” “Die Lustigen Weiber von Windsor” and La Cenerentola” and their respective composers.

“Der Fliegende Holländer” will also be performed, as will a double bill of “Cavalleria Rusticana” and “Pagliacci.”
