Everything You Need to Know About The Dallas Opera’s 2017-18 Season

The Dallas Opera has announced its 2017-18 season. The company will feature five operas next season, all of them repertory staples.

Samson et Dalilah

Saint-Saëns’ “Samson et Dalilah” will kick off the proceedings on Oct. 20, 2017 for a run of five performances that ends on Nov. 5. The opera will feature Olga Borodina, who will be making her company debut in the title role of Dalilah. Clifton Forbis will be playing the role of Samson while Music Director Emmanuel Villaume conducts.

La Traviata

On Oct. 27, the company will showcase Verdi’s “La Traviata” for six presentations. Georgia Jarman will take on the title role with Zach Borichevsky playing her lover Alfredo. Vladislav Sulimsky will play Germont and Carlo Montanaro will conduct.

The Ring of Polykrates

Starting on Feb. 9, 2018 and for a total of four shows, the company will showcase two works by Erich Wolfgang Korngold. The first will be his famed Violin Concerto which will be performed by Augustin Dumay. The latter is the rare opera “The Ring of Polykrates,” conducted by Villaume and featuring Paul Groves, Laura Wilde and Craig Colclough, making their company debuts.

Sunken Garden

On March 9, the company will present the American premiere of Michael van der Aa’s “Sunken Garden” starring Katherine Manley and Miah Persson with Nicole Paiement conducting. The run will last through March 17, a total of four performances.

Don Giovanni

The season closes with production Mozart’s “Don Giovanni,” starring Mariusz Kwiecien in the title role. The cast also features David Portillo, Laura Claycomb, Ellie Dehn, Kyle Ketelsen, Virginie Verrez, Crag Verm and Morris Robinson. Villaume will conduct the run that kicks off on April 13, 2018 and ends on the 19th.
