Everything You Need to Know About Lyric Opera of Kansas City’s 2017-18 Season

Lyric of Kansas City’s 2017-18 got its announcement earlier this week, the company announcing that it would be showing five works in addition to two events.

The company will kick off its season with a production of Tchaikovsky’s operatic masterwork “Eugene Onegin” with performances on Sept. 30, October 4, 6 and 8. The work will be directed by Tomer Zvulun and conducted by Stuart Stratford.

On Nov. 11, 15, 17 and 19, the company will showcase Joby Talbot’s “Everest,” a work based on the true stories of three climbers caught in a blizzard on Mt. Everest in 1996.

Chamber opera “As One” gets two performances on Jan. 27 and 28, 2018 at the Michael and Ginger Frost Production Arts Building. The work, for two singers and string quartet, is composed by Laura Kaminsky and written by Mark Campbell and Kimberly Reed.

March brings forth Verdi’s “Rigoletto” for four performances on the third, seventh, ninth and eleventh of the month. David Charles Abell conducts while David Gately directs.

Rossini’s “The Barber of Seville” arrives for four performances on April 28, May 2, 4 and 6. Leonardo Vordoni conducts while Michael Shell directs.

The company will also showcase a special program entitled “The Bernstein Songbook” in celebration of Leonard Bernstein’s 100^th birthday. The program will include the conductor / composer’s final song cycle “Arias and Barcarolles.”

On March 24 and 25, 2018, the company will host the American Voices program.
