We have just entered the Winter season, but the Aspen Music Festival is already getting people pumped for the season, announcing its performance slate for the months of June, July and August.

Opera aficionados will find a lot to marvel at including a number of recitals.

Michelle De Young will give a concert on July 25, 2017 featuring “Timothy Collins’ “Desdemona for Mezzo-Soprano and String Quartet” and Mahler’s “Rückert Lieder.” There will also be a performance of a String Quartet by Ravel or Prokofiev, though the ensemble has yet to be named. Tickets start at $55 and the concert will take place at the Harris Concert Hall.

A day later soprano Esther Heideman joins the Pacifica Quartet for a recital that features the music of Haydn, Schoenberg and Beethoven. The concert will be performed at the Harris Concert Hall with tickets no cheaper than $55.

On July 29, baritone Andre Schuen will perform in a recital with pianist Andreas Haefliger in music of Berg, Schubert and Beethoven at the Harris Concert Hall.

Renée Fleming will appear in concert with the Aspen Festival Orchestra on July 30 in music by Christopher Theofanidis. That concert also showcases Stravinsky’s “Firebird Suite” and Alan Fletcher’s “Piano Concerto.” The Benedict Music Tent will be the locale for this event, which has tickets starting at $82.

On August 20, audiences will get a shot to hear a performance of Berlioz’s “The Damnation of Faust” featuring Sasha Cooke, Bryan Hymel and John Relyea at the Benedict Music Tent. It will cost at least $90 to get into the hall.

The Aspen Opera Center will shoscase productions of “La Traviata” on July 15, 17 and 18 followed by three performances on August 15, 17 and 19 of “La Clemenza di Tito.” There will also be a concert presentaiton of Bedford’s “Seven Angels” on August 5.

Per the festival’s own press release, “the AMFS is the United States’ premier classical music festival, presenting more than 400 musical events during its eight-week summer season in Aspen. The organization draws top classical musicians from around the world to this Colorado mountain retreat for an unparalleled combination of performances and music education.”
