Ermonela Jaho Graces The Opera Platform As ‘Madama Butterfly’

By Francisco Salazar

The Opera Platform is set to live stream the Teatro Real’s current production of Puccini’s “Madama Butterfly.”

The live stream will take place on June 30 and will feature director Mario Gas’s production, which is set in a 1930’s film studio where they are working on a film adaptation of Puccini’s opera. Gas opens the opera’s plot up by adding a film crew, offering two interpretations simultaneously, the acting in front of the camera and the actual film.

The production stars soprano Ermonela Jaho, who has become one of the most acclaimed Cio-Cio Sans of our time having sung the role all over the world including at the Washington National Opera where she recently made her company debut. She is also no stranger to the opera platform as she has dazzled as Violetta Valéry in “La Traviata” and Desdemona in “Otello.”

Jorge de León is Benjamin Franklin Pinkerton and Marco Armiliato conducts the Teatro Real’s orchestra. Enkelejda Shkosa is Suzuki and Ángel Ódena is Sharpless.
