Elizabeth Caballero Replaces Sonya Yoncheva in ‘La Bohème’

Sonya Yoncheva has canceled tonight’s performance of “La Bohème.”

The Metropolitan Opera announced on Twitter that due to illness Yoncheva would not sing the performance. As a result, Elizabeth Caballero will sing Mimì.

Caballero made her Met debut as Frasquita in 2009 in “Carmen” and recently sang Donna Elvira in “Don Giovanni” at the Seattle Opera, a performance of Carmina Burana with the Florida Orchestra, ”Florencia en el Amazonas” with Nashville Opera, John Rutter’s Requiem at Carnegie Hall, and a concert appearance as Micaëla in “Carmen” and Previn’s “Honey and Rue.”

She also sang the role of Donna Elvira in “Don Giovanni” at the Lyric Opera Kansas City and Violetta in “La Traviata” at Opera Naples.

Yoncheva returns for the final two performances of “La Bohème” scheduled for March 7 and 10. She is also also scheduled to maker her role debut as “Luisa Miller” later this month.

Caballero joins Michael Fabiano, Lucas Meachem and Susanna Phillips. Marco Armiliato conducts.
