Elchin Azizov Receives Award From Azerbaijan

Elchin Azizov has received the title of People’s Artist of Azerbaijan.

The baritone announced via instagram that President Ilham Aliyev and Vice President Mehriban Aliyeva honored him for his contribution in music.

The baritone, who hails from Azerbaijan, is a soloist with the Bolshoi Theatre and recently performed the title role of “Macbeth” at the Opera de Lyon for its Verdi Festival. He also toured alongside Anna Netrebko and Yusif Eyvazov and sang Carlo Gerard in “Andrea Chenier” with the Hungarian State Opera. He next performs the role of Scarpia at the Teatro Nacional de Chile. He also returns to the Metropolitan Opera for “Iolanta” and “Samson et Dalila.” He is also slated to perform “Simon Boccanegra” with the Metropolitan Opera in a future season.
