Doris Soffel’s Deutsche Oper Berlin Recital Canceled

By Francisco Salazar

Doris Soffel’s recital at the Deutsche Oper Berlin has been canceled due to COVID-19 restrictions.

The mezzo’s recital was scheduled for December. She will not return to the stage until February 2021 when she takes on the role of Herodias in “Salome” at the Bolshoi Theatre, Moscow.

The recital cancellation comes on the heels of the Bayerische Staatsoper canceling a production of Poulenc’s “Dialogues des Carmelites;” Soffel was expected to sing the role of Mme de Croissy in that November production.

Soffel recently sang the role of Klytämnestra in “Elektra” at the Wiener Staatsoper and is well known for her interpretations in a diverse repertoire. She performs regularly at the Bayerische Staatsoper, Hamburg State Opera, Opernhaus Zurich, and Gran Teatre del Liceu.
