Donizetti Festival Announces 2019 Season

By Francisco Salazar

The Donizetti Festival has announced its 2019 festival featuring three operas.

The festival will kick off the festival with “Pietro Il Grande, Czar Delle Russie.” The opera semi-seria, created in 1819, also known as “Il falegname di Livonia,” is rarely performed and last received a production at the Festival della Valle d’Itria in 2004.

The second opera of the season will see “L’Ange de Nisida” get its first on stage production. The opera had its world premiere this past summer and was recorded by Opera Rara. The opera was later reworked into “La Favorite.”

The third work of the season will be a new critical edition of “Lucrezia Borgia,” which is set to include new ensembles and arias and will showcase Donizetti’s original intentions.

The festival is set to take place at the end of November in time for Donizetti’s birthday.
