By Francisco Salazar

Dmitri Hvorostovsky continues hospitalized after being diagnosed with pneumonia.

According to Russian Reports , the baritone has no release date yet. Hvorostovsky was taken to hospital in St. Petersburg with pneumonia on Dec. 20. During that time the singer’s condition normalized but doctor’s noted that there was no telling when he might be discharged from the hospital.

According to the reports, the baritone however will still go ahead this month with a recital in Yekaterinburg as he is said to be rehearsing in his hospital bed.

The baritone announced in December that he was canceling all opera engagements for the foreseeable future. He said, “It is with great sadness that I must withdraw from opera performances for the foreseeable future. I have been experiencing balance issues associated with my illness, making it extremely difficult for me to perform in staged productions.”

He continued, “I will continue to give concerts and recitals as well as make recordings. Singing is my life, and I want to continue bringing joy to people worldwide. With this pause in my operatic career and more rest in between each engagement, I hope to have more time to focus on my health and treatment.”

The baritone is scheduled to resume his concert schedule in February in Russia and in March in Vienna. He is scheduled to sing alongside Anna Netrebko and Yusif Eyvazov in a concert in Canada.
