Dmitri Hvorostovsky’s management has announced that the Russian baritone has canceled his debut at the Bolshoi Opera.

The statement noted, “Having sung four very successful performances of La Traviata in Vienna, Dmitri is back in London. Following an MRI scan, Dmitri has been advised by his doctors to remain in London for further treatment and rest. As a result, Dmitri must, unfortunately, withdraw from two performances of Don Carlo at the Bolshoi, which would have marked his operatic debut with the company.

“Dmitri deeply regrets the situation but remains optimistic about his recovery and grateful for the support from his family, friends, colleagues, and fans.”

The baritone, who was diagnosed with a brain tumor back in the summer of 2015, is expected to return to the stage to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Hvorostovsky and Friends with Marcelo Álvarez on December 14, 2017 at Moscow’s State Kremlin Palace. He will also perform on December 18, 2018 at St. Petersburg’s Oktyabrskiy Great Concert Hall with Alvarez.

The baritone is also slated to return to the Royal Opera House for a run of Verdi’s “Il Trovatore” with Gregory Kunde and the Metropolitan Opera to sing the title role in “Tchaikovsky’ “Eugene Onegin” alongside Anna Netrebko. He is also slated to tour the world in a series of recital concerts with pianist  Ivari Ilja.
