Diana Damrau & Matthias Goerne Headline Barcelona Obertura Spring Festival

The Barcelona Obertura Spring Festival has announced its upcoming 2019 festival.

The festival, which will take place from March 4 to the 17, unites the Gran Teatro del Liceo, el Palau de la Música Catalana, el Auditorio de Barcelona and Barcelona Global, with the collaboration of Ibercamera and the backing of Ayuntamiento de Barcelona.

The festival will include a number of opera’s greatest stars and complete opera performances. Here is a look at what operatic events will take place.

On March 4, 2019, baritone Matthias Goerne joins pianist Leif-Ove Ansdnes for Schubert’s  Die schöne Müllerin. The two will reunite for Schubert’s Schwanengesang on March 5 and March 7, they will perform’s Schubert’s Winterreise.

On March 7, Diana Damrau and Carlos Álvarez reunite for Thomas’ “Hamlet.” Daniel Oren conducts the concert version, which will incorporate the Gran Teatro del Liceu.

Händel’s “Rodelinda” will get a complete production by the Claus Guth with countertenor Bejun Mehta and Josep Pons conducting. The opera will be shown at the Gran Teatro del Liceu.

On March 14, Irene Théorin will perform a recital at the Gran Teatro del Liceu with a program to be determined and an accompanist to be determined.

Kazushi Ono conducts Beethoven’s Symphony No.9 on March 15 while Mahler Symphony No. 3 will also get a performance on March 14 with the Orfeó Catala.
