Des Moines Metro Opera Announces Casting For 46TH Summer Festival Season

The Des Moines Metro Opera has announced its casting for the 2017-18 season. In a press release, the company noted, “Our reputation for exceptional casting, remarkable production values, and thoughtfully selected repertory continues to expand. Audiences in Des Moines and around the broader industry increasingly discover for themselves Iowa’s operatic oasis.” As previously noted, the company will present three works.

Here is a look at the casting for these three works.

The company “Die Fledermaus” will be conducted by Robert Moody in his company debut in a new production by David Gately. The cast will be led by Susannah Biller as Rosalinde and Taylor Stayton as Alfred. David Pershall and Anna Christy will make their company debuts as Eisenstein and Adele. Sarah Larsen is Prince Orlovsky while Troy Cook is Dr. Falke.

Performance Dates: June 23, 24(m), 29; July 7, 12, 15(m

The company will also present “Rusalka” for the first time. David Neely conducts Chas Rader-Shieber’s production. Sara Gartland sings the title role with Evan LeRoy Johnson as the Prince in his debut. Jill Grove also make her debut as Ježibaba while Zachary James is Vodník. Laura Wilde makes her debut as the Foreign princess rounding out the cast.

Performance Dates: June 22; July 1(m), 3, 6, 14 

The final work of the season will be the 1998 opera “Flight.” The work in its company premiere will star John Holiday, Audrey Luna, and  Andrew Bidlack in their debuts as well as Zulimar López-Hernández, Zachary James, and Elise Quagliata. Theo Hoffman, Sofia Selowsky, Norman Garrett, and Deanne Meek round out the cast all in their company debuts.

Performance Dates: June 30; July 8(m), 10, 13
