The dell’Arte Opera Ensemble will kick off its 2017 UNTAMED! Opera Festival in just a matter of weeks at New York City’s La MaMa Theatre.

The festival, which starts on August 12 and runs through the 27th, will begin with a six-performance run of Francesco Cavalli’s “La Calisto.” The opera will feature sopranos Marie Marquis and Emily Hughes in the title role with Charles Weaver, the company’s music director, leading the ensemble. There will performances on the 13th, 19th, 20th, 24th and 26th of August.

Second up on the slate is a production of Janáček’s famed “The Cunning Little Vixen.” That work will premiere on August 19 with subsequent performances on the 21st, 23rd, 25th, and 27th of the month. Ashraf Sewailem will direct a cast that includes Rachel Hall as the Vixen while conductor and Music Director David Štech leads the ensemble from the pit.

The festival will also include two nights of Opera Scenes with excerpts from “Carmen,” “Idomeneo,” “La clemenza di Tito,” “Rusalka,” “Die Entfürung aus dem Serail,” “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” and more.

There will also be a recital entitled “Wild Things,” which will feature repertoire about the animal kingdom and other “untamed” creatures. That performance will take place on August 26, 2017.
