Danielle Pastin To Play Nedda In Metropolitan Opera Matinee of ‘Pagliacci’

By Francisco Salazar

Aleksandra Kurzak has canceled today’s performance of “Pagliacci.”

The Metropolitan Opera announced via Twitter that Kurzak was ill and as a result, Danielle Pastin will be replacing her.

Pastin made her Metropolitan Opera debut as Masha in “The Queen of Spades” in 2011 and was also featured as Frasquita in the Met’s production of “Carmen” in 2012 and 2013. This season she will be featured in Verdi’s Requiem with The Dayton Opera and also with Distinguished Concerts International New York in Barcelona. She will also perform the lead role of Leila in Bizet’s “The Pearl Fishers” in her debut with Toledo Opera and will reprise the role of Countess Almaviva in Mozart’s “Le Nozze di Figaro” with the Pittsburgh Opera.

This is the second cancellation for today’s matinee as Alessio Arduini bowed out due to illness. He will be replaced by Alexey Lavrov.

The rest of the cast remains the same with Roberto Alagna and George Gagnidze and Nicola Luisotti conducting. Ekaterina Semenchuck sings the lead in “Cavalleria Rusticana.”
