Daniela Mack To Close Opera Philadelphia’s Season In ‘Carmen’

Mezzo-soprano Daniela Mack, who opened Opera Philadelphia’s 2017-2018 season in the title role of the new opera “Elizabeth Cree,” is set to close the season in the title role Bizet’s “Carmen.”

The acclaimed mezzo-soprano will star in a new production by Paul Curran, who last helmed Verdi’s “La Traviata” for Philadelphia. Mack and Curran will be accompanied by a cast of rising stars including Evan LeRoy Johnson in the role of Don José. International Baritone Adrian Timpau will make his company debut as Escamillo, while soprano Kirsten MacKinnon will take on the role of Micaëla.

The cast will be rounded out by Johnathan McCullough, Musa Ngqungwana, Ashley Milanese, and Anastasiia Sidorova. Yves Abel makes his company debut leading the Opera Philadelphia Orchestra.

“Carmen” opens on April 27 and runs through May 6, 2018.
