Daniel Brenna & Katarina Karnéus Highlight Göteborg Opera’s 2020-21 Season

The Göteborg Opera has announced its 2020-21 season, which features one world premiere and a number of new productions. Here is a look:Puccini’s “La Bohème” opens the 2020-21 season featuring a cast that includes Ida Falk Winland, Jung Soo Yun, Luthando Qave, and Sofie Asplund. Henrik Schaefer conducts the production.

Performance Dates: August 30-Sept. 20, 2020

Offenbach’s “Champagne Tears” gets a new production starring Åke Zetterström and Carolina Sandgren. Musical artist Ingahlill Wagelin will narrate the operetta. The production will be presented first at the Göteborg Opera and will then be toured around Västra Götaland for 20 performances.

Performance Dates: Sept. 12-20, 2020

Giancarlo Andretta conducts Verdi’s “Nabucco” with baritone Mats Persson in the title role and Zoya Tsererina as Abigaille. Tomas Lind and Mats Almgren round out the cast.

Performance Dates: Oct. 31, 2020Jan, 24 2021

The first two parts of Wagner’s epic work “Der Ring des Nibelungen” will be screened for audiences in anticipation for “Siegfried.” “Das Rheingold” was performed in the autumn of 2018 and “Die Walküre” was performed in 2019.

Richard Wagner’s “Siegfried” is set to be conducted by Evan Rogister and directed by Stephen Langridge. Daniel Brenna sings the title role, which he has dominated over the past years. The cast also includes Dan Karlström, Olafur Sigurdarson, Mats Almgren, Hege Høisæter, Sofie Asplund, and Ingela Brimberg.Performance Dates: Nov. 29, 2020Jan. 16, 2021

Director Clara Svärd helms a production of “Mytomania” by Gothenburg composer Paula af Malmborg Ward and librettist Kerstin Perski. Andreas Hanson conducts the world premiere. The cast is set to include Joachim Bäckström, Ann-Kristin Jones, and Kerstin Avemo.

Performance Dates: Feb. 20March 25, 2021

Katarina Karnéus sings the title role in Bellini’s “Norma” alongside Mia Karlsson, Tomas Lind, and Anders Lorentzson. Myron Michailidis conducts.

Performance Dates: March 528, 2021

Mattias Ermedahl, Mats Almgren, Kerstin Avemo, Vassilis Kavayas, Ann-Kristin Jones, Markus Schwartz, Hannes Öberg, and Mia Karlsson lead Mozart’s “Don Giovanni” with Ville Matvejeff conducting.

Performance Dates: May 8June 2, 2021
