Daniel Barenboim, Barbara Frittoli & Nancy Fabiola Herrera Headline Teatro Colón’s 2018 Season

The Teatro Colón has announced its 2018 season presenting 11 operas.

The season kicks off on March 13, 2018, with “Three Sisters” by Peter Eötvös. The opera based on a play by Anton Chekhov is set to star Jovita Vaskeviciute, Anna Laprovskaja and Elvira Hasanagić.

On April 22, 2018, Scarlatti’s “Il Trionfo dell’onore” will be showcased for four performances with Victoria Gaeta, Cecilia Pastawski, Sofía Di Benedetto, Rocío Arbizu, Josue Miranda, and Pablo Urban.

On May 4, 2018, Rossini’s “L’Italiana in Algeri” will premiere in a new production by Joan Anton Rechi. Antonello Allemandi conducts a star-studded cast which includes Nancy Fabiola Herrera and Florencia Machado sharing the title role. The opera will be performed six times.

Then on May 14, 2018, Verdi’s “Aida” will get a revival with Latonia Moore, Mónica Ferracani and Haydee Dabusti sharing the role. Riccardo Massi, Enrique Folger and Fernando Chalabe will share the role of Radamès. Carlos Vieu conducts the work which is set to be presented seven times.

Daniel Barenboim returns to Buenos Aires for Wagner’s “Tristan und Isolde” in a production borrowed from the Berlin State Opera. The opera is set to star Anja Kampe and Peter Seiffert and will open on July 11, 2018.

João Guilherme Ripper ‘s “Piedade” will appear in four performances starting on August 25, 2018, with  Laura Pisani, Sebastián Angulegui and Sebastián Russo.

Giuseppe Filianoti headlines a new production of Debussy’s “Pelléas et Mélisande” by Gustavo Tambascio. Verónica Cangemi sings Melisande while Enrique Arturo Diemecke conducts all four performances which open on August 31, 2018.

On October 12, 2018, Puccini’s “La Bohème” opens with Mariana Ortiz and Marina Silva sharing the role of Mimì. Atalla Ayan and Gustavo López Manzitti share the role of Rodolfo while Joseph Colaneri conducts all eight performances.

Haydn’s oratorio “The Seasons” will get four performances starting on Nov. 2, 2018. Daniela Tabernig, Hernán Iturralde and Carlos Ullán star.

Barbara Frittoli will take on Bellini’s “Norma” with Annalisa Stroppa and Gastón Rivero. Renato Palumbo conducts the work which opens on Nov. 30, 2018. Carla Filipcic Holm alternates the title role with Frittoli. “Norma” will get six performances.

The season concludes with Thomas Ades’ modern masterpiece “Powder Her Face.” The new production by Marcelo Lombardero stars Daniela Tabernig, Santiago Burgi and Hernán Iturralde. Marcelo Ayub conducts all four performances which begin on Dec. 13, 2018.
