Critically Acclaimed ‘Hamlet’ To Be Live Streamed From Glyndebourne Festival

By David Salazar

For years, the world has craved a solid Hamlet Opera. Well, it seems that that wish may have come true with Brett Dean’s new work.

The opera received thunderously positive reviews from the Glyndebourne Festival and now audiences around the world will get to weigh in with their thoughts when the opera is streamed online on July 6, 2017. The stream will be available through July 13 for those who cannot watch the initial broadcast.

The opera premiered on June 11, 2017, and features a libretto by Matthew Jocelyn, who distilled many of the great Bard’s texts. The opera features Allan Clayton in the title role, as well as Barbara Hannigan, Sarah Connolly, Rod Gilfry and John Tomlinson to round out the cast. Connolly’s involvement remains up in the air after the mezzo canceled a performance of “Das Rheingold” at Tanglewood.

The London Philharmonic Orchestra and Glyndebourne Chorus perform under the baton of Vladimir Jurowski.

The opera is slated for a fall tour between Oct. 21, 2017, and Dec. 1, 2017, at Glyndebourne, the Marlowe Theatre in Canterbury, the Theatre Royal in Norwich, Milton Keynes Theatre and the Theatre Royal in Plymouth.
