By Francisco Salazar

American baritone Craig Verm will take over the run of Mozart’s “Don Giovanni” at the Dallas Opera.

The company announced that Verm will sing the title role in the final three performances, replacing the originally scheduled Mariusz Kwiecien who was forced to cancel due to illness.

Originally scheduled to sing the role of Masetto, Verm will be replaced by bass-baritone André Courville in his Dallas Opera debut.

Verm sang the first three performances of the run making his role debut and scoring great reviews. The Dallas Voice wrote that Verm “stepped into the leading role with authority, fine voice, charisma…and a damned sexy mien. Verm is amazing.”

Verm is one of the fastest rising American singers of his generation. He is next scheduled to perform at the Santa Fe Opera, Pittsburgh Opera, and Austin Lyric Opera.

“Don Giovanni” also stars Kyle Ketelsen, Laura Claycomb, Katie Van Kooten, David Portillo, and Virginie Verrez. Emmanuel Villaume conducts the run, which is set to end on April 29, 2018.
