Conductor Replaced in ‘Parsifal’ At Bayreuth Festival Due to Illness

By David Salazar

We have a conductor change at the Bayreuth Festival for the “Parsifal” performance on August 5, 2017.

Per the company’s official website maestro Harmut Haenchen will be replaced by Marek Janowski due to illness.

The performance of Wagner’s final opera will include RyaMcKinny as Amfortas, Karl-Heinz Lehner as Titurel, Georg Zeppenfeld as Gurnemanz, Andreas Schager as Parsifal, Derek Welton as Klingsor, and Elena Pankratova as Kundry. The opera is directed by Uwe Eric Laufenberg.

Janowski is currently in a massive Wagner project of his own at the Bayreuth Festival, leading the company’s production of Wagner’s “Der Ring des Nibelungen” throughout the month of August.

As for Haenchen, after his run of “Parsifal,” he will go over to Köln to be a juror in the German Directors’ Competition, per his official website. Later this fall he takes on a number of symphonic works and also leads a performance of Dvorak’s “Requiem” in Brussels.
