CD/DVD Releases -Week of May 8: Jessica Pratt Leads Releases With Rosamunda D’Inghilterra

Two unique DVDs will be hitting the market this week. The first one comes from a very popular contemporary opera while the other comes from the Bel Canto period in a rarely performed opera.

A New Susannah

Carlisle Floyd’s early masterpiece is ranked as one of the most important opera’s of the 20th century and now Naxos is releasing a new DVD version. Susan Hellman Spatafora stars in the new DVD with Todd Donovan, Anthony Wright Webb, and Scott Wichael. Filmed in St. Petersburg, Florida, the opera is conducted by Mark Sforzini. The DVD will be released worldwide.

Rosamunda D’Inghilterra

From the Fondazione Donizetti, a rarely perform Donizetti work is getting a DVD. The work in question is “Rosamunda D’Inghilterra” and Dynamic is releasing it with an all-star cast that includes the acclaimed coloratura soprano, Jessica Pratt. The cast also includes veteran Eva Mei and Dario Schmunck. Sebastiano Rolli conducts the opera, which is slated to be released internationally before hitting the U.S market.
