CD/DVD Releases -Week of March 6: Krassimira Stoyanova Enchants With ‘Verismo’

By Francisco Salazar

This week sees the release of a world premiere recording as well as a DVD of one of Verdi’s most popular operas. It also sees another Verismo album. Check it out!

Telemaco

Simon Mayr’s “Telemaco” will be released by Naxos with members of the Bayersiche Staatsoper. Conducted by Franz Hauk, this marks the world premiere recording of the rarely performed opera. For those not familiar with the composer’s work, he was very famous throughout his life as he wrote a total of seventy operas but sadly did not survive the test of time. Thankfully, for audiences who have not heard his music, this will be a great opportunity.

Verismo

Krassimira Stoyanova is releasing yet another album entitled “Verismo.” Accompanied by the Münchner Rundfunkorchester and conductor Pavel Baleff, the album features arias by Puccini, Giordano, Mascagni, Cilea, and Catalani. “Verismo” will also include music from rarely performed operas including “Lodoletta” and “Edgar.” Orfeo is releasing the CD first in international territories before the United States market.

Beczala’s “Ballo”

One of the most acclaimed productions from the 2015-16 season will get a release. The Bayersiche Staatsoper’s production of Verdi’s “Un Ballo in Maschera” was the talk of last season thanks to its star-studded cast, which included Piotr Beczala and Anja Harteros. Conducted by Zubin Metha, this is opera at its finest. C Major will release the opera in Europe before bringing it to U.S audiences at the end of the month.
