CD/DVD Releases -Week of March 20: Natalie Dessay Returns To Lieder And Song

While there are only two new releases this week, Natalie Dessay fans will definitely be in for a surprise with her return to classical music.

Natalie Dessay’ “Schubert”

The eponymous soprano Natalie Dessay returns to the classical repertoire with her second album for Sony Classical. This time she takes on Schubert songs with pianist Phillippe Cassard. Some of the pieces on the album include “Du bist die Ruh,” “Suleika,” and “Der Hirt auf dem Felsen.” Sony is releasing the album first on MP3 this week and will launch the CD copy on March 31 worldwide.

“L’Orfeo”
The Fondazione Collegio San Carlo di Modena, in collaboration with Naxos of America, is releasing a recording of Monteverdi’s famed 1607 work “L’Orfeo.” Recorded in February of 2006, the opera features Salvo Vitale, Mirko Guadagnini, and Emanuela Galli. The recording is conducted by Claudio Cavina who leads the La Venexiana.
