CD/DVD Releases -Week of April 3: Jonas Kaufmann Leads With New Mahler Recording

This week Jonas Kaufmann has a new CD out while Dynamic brings a new “Otello” interpretation to home video.

Das Lied Von Erde

Sony releases a new recording of Mahler’s “Das Lied von Erde” with none other than Jonas Kaufmann. In this new recording conducted by Jonathan Nott, Kaufmann takes on the tenor and baritone parts. The symphony is accompanied by the Vienna Philharmonic and it marks Kaufmann’s sixth CD for the company. Sony has also released nine DVDs for the tenor. The CD is being released worldwide on Friday.

Otello

For those interested in a new interpretation of Verdi’s “Otello,” Dynamic will release a recording from the Sferisterio Festival. The production stars Stuart Neill in the title role as well as Jessica Nuccio as Desdemona. Acclaimed conductor Riccardo Frizza leads the production which was filmed on DVD by Tiziano Mancini. Dynamic will release the performances first in Germany followed by a UK and US release.
