CD / DVD Releases – Week of June 11: Anna Netrebko, Barbara Hannigan & Leonard Bernstein Highlight New Releases

This week, Anna Netrebko, Barbara Hannigan, Leonard Bernstein and George Gagnidze release new DVDs and CDs. It will be a chance to see some of your favorite singers and conductors in signature roles as well as rarely performed works. Take a look!

“Giovanna d’Arco”

Anna Netrebko’s celebrated interpretation of Verdi’s early work comes to DVD. The production, which opened the Teatro Alla Scala’s 2015-16 season will be released by Decca and also stars Francesco Meli and Carlos Alvarez. Riccardo Chailly conducts the production.

“Tristan un Isolde”

In celebration of Bernstein’s centennial, C Major is releasing a semi-staged version of “Tristan und Isolde.” The DVD marks the first release of the work on the platform and stars Hildegard Behrens and Peter Hoffmann.

“La Campana Sommersa”

Respighi’s rarely performed work gets a new DVD from Naxos. The opera, conducted by Donato Renzetti, comes from the Teatro Lirico di Caligari in a production by Francesco Maestrini. 

“Nabucco” 

George Gagnidze takes on the title role in Verdi’s “Nabucco” from the Arena di Verona. Conducted by Daniel Oren, the opera also stars Susanna Branchini, Rafael Siwek, and Nino Surguladze. BelAir releases the DVD.

“Bluebeard’s Castle/La Voix Humaine” 

Barbara Hannigan stars in Poulenc’s monopera, while Ekaterina Gubanova and John Relyea star in Bartok’s sole opera. Esa-Pekka Salonen conducts the new production by Krzysztof Warlikowski, which unifies both works.

Sommernachtskonzert 2018

Anna Netrebko and Valery Gergiev team up for Vienna’s summer performance. The concert features the Vienna Philharmonic and features the music of Verdi, Puccini, Leoncavallo, Prokofiev and Cilea. Sony Classical releases.
