This week, one major CD is slated for release and it comes from one of opera’s greatest singers. Here is a sneak peek of that release!

Songplay 

Joyce DiDonato releases her latest album for Erato featuring music by Vivaldi in both its customary Baroque purity and swinging to the heady rhythm of a samba.

As described in a press release “It brings a tango sizzle to an aria by Vivaldi’s contemporary Marcello, and it plays with the voice of Bach in George Shearing’s ‘Lullaby of Birdland.'”

The CD features pianist and harpsichordist Craig Terry (Music Director of the Ryan Opera Center @ Lyric Opera of Chicago), trumpeter Charlie Porter (Wynton Marsalis protégé), veteran jazz bassist Chuck Israels (Billie Holiday, Bill Evans, Stan Getz, Herbie Hancock, John Coltrane) drummer Jimmy Madison, (Bill Evans, James Brown, Nina Simone, Chet Baker, George Benson), and Argentinian bandoneon player Lautaro Greco (Mercedes Sosa). A tour of the album is set for this upcoming year throughout the U.S.
