‘Carmina Burina’ Returns to Bogotá’s Teatro Mayor Julio Mario Santo Domingo After Popular Demand

By David Salazar

The Teatro Mayor Julio Mario Santo Domingo is set to showcase Carl Orff’s famed “Carmina Burana” on June 21, 22, 23 and 24.

Per the company’s official website, the work was brought to the theater in 2013 and was a major hit. Its upcoming revival is the result of popular demand and will feature the joint efforts of the Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional de Colombia, el Coro de la Ópera de Colombia, el Coro Infantil Batuta San Rafael, and la Fundación L’Explose. The soloists include Carolina Ullrich, Christian Senn, and Santiago Burgi.

The staging of the oratorio is the work of Tino Fernández.

The Thursday, Friday, and Saturday performances are set for 8 p.m. start times with the Sunday showcase scheduled for an 11 a.m. presentation, local time.

This is the first in a number of productions for the theater in 2018. In early September, the organization will feature a run of performances of Richard Strauss’ “Der Rosenkavalier.”
