Carmen Giannattasio, Martina Serafin Lead 63rd Festival Puccini

The 63rd Festival Puccini kicks off later this week and will showcase five great operas from the legendary composer.

The opening of the festival is currently slated for July 14 with a production of Puccini’s final work, “Turandot,” which will star Martina Serafin and Irina Rindzuner in the lead role, Stefano La Colla and Amadi Lagha sharing the character of Calaf and the trio of Carmen Giannattasio, Angela De Lucia, and Dafne Tian Hui alternating Liù. Roberto Scandiuzzi and Nicola Pisaniello both sing Timur. The opera runs for five performances, the last one coming on August 12, 2017.

“La Rondine,” which premiered in 1917, is the second opera to open. The opera will feature Donata D’Annunzio Lombardi in the lead role, Elisabetta Zizzo as Lisette, and Leonardo Caimi as Ruggero.

Afterward, the festival continues with “La Bohème,” which stars Piotr Beczala as Rodolfo, Karine Babjanyan and Olivera Mercurio sharing the role of Mimì, and  Elisabetta Zizzo,  Alessandra Mella, and Marina Zyatkova alternating as Musetta. The production opens on July 21, 2017.

Hui He leads the production of “Tosca,” which opens on July 29, 2017. Dario Di Vietri and Hector López alternate the role of Cavaradossi and Alberto Gazale is one of two Scarpia interpreters.

The festival closes with an August 18 performance of “Madama Butterfly.”

The festival first started in 1930 and is showcased every summer at Torre del Lago.
