Carmen Giannattasio Announces Injury; Will Not Cancel Upcoming Performances

Carmen Giannattasio has announced that despite an injury, she will continue performing throughout the summer.

The Italian diva took to Facebook to reveal that she has broken her meniscus during this recent run of “Pagliacci” at Semperopera, but that she is going to fight through the pain to make everything work.

“Hello Friends, unfortunately, my knee is again under pain.I’ ve partially broken meniscus during last rehearsals and as soon as I terminate this summer run, will operate and fix it. Meanwhile wearing a brace which is not very appealing but helping me a lot,” she wrote on social media. “Being an Opera Singer can be dangerous.”

She also revealed that co-star, Jelena Kordic, who is performing the role of Lola in “Cavalleria Rusticana,” is also injured. The two posted a pictured on Facebook with Giannattasio sporting a knee brace and Kordic wearing an ankle brace.

She concluded the message by noting that she will head over to Torre del Lago after her run of “Cav/Pag” to take on “Turandot” at the Puccini Festival, which opens on July 14. She will perform the role of Liù.
