Carmela Remigio, Andrew Garland & Nina Minasyan Lead New CD/DVD releases

This week audiences can listen to world premieres, rising stars, and watch two rarely performed operas.

Songs of Earth and Air

Lorelt CD Label is set to release an album of vocal works composed by Rhian Samuel, inspired by poetry celebrating nature and her love of the Welsh countryside. Welsh baritone Jeremy Huw Williams presents a collage of songs and two solo pieces by Rhian Samuel inspired by the texts of poets Laurie Lee, Gerald Manley Hopkins, Anne Stevenson, Horiguchi Daigaku, Charles Sorley and others, on the theme of Nature. Paula Fan accompanies on piano.

BORN

Conductor Donald Nally leads the chamber choir The Crossing in a breathtakingly beautiful expedition into themes of extinctions, relationships and their complexities, loss, and love. The new album is an amalgamation of Hill’s and Gilbertson’s ethereal, energetic, raw, and impactful compositions.

El Rebelde

Baritone Andrew Garland performs music by Gabriela Lena Frank, including the world premiere recording of Cantos de Cifar y el Mar Dulce (Songs of Cifar and the Sweet Sea). The album also includes music by Frank, and Shostakovich’s Spanish Songs. Javier Abreu and Jeremy Reger also perform on the album.

The Golden Cockerel

Naxo is set to release a production of Rimsky-Korsakov’s opera from the Opéra National de Lyon which was recorded in May 2021. The production by Barrie Kosky stars Nina Minasyan, Dmitry Ulyanov, and Andrey Popov. Daniele Rustioni led the Orchestra and Chorus of the Opéra National de Lyon.

Griselda

Dynamic Releases Alessandro Scarlatti’s opera from the Festival della Valle d’Itria in Martina Franca. Rosetta Cucchi directs the production which stars Raffaele Pe, Carmela Remigio, Mariam Battistelli, Miriam Albano, Francesca Ascioti and Krystian Adam. La Lira d’Orfeo is led by George Petrou.
