Carlos Alvarez, Ainhoa Arteta & Sabina Puertolas Headline Teatro Del La Zarzuela’s 2018-19 Season

The Teatro de la Zarzuela has announced its 2018-19 season featuring a number of favorites and international stars. The season will also include concerts and recitals by some of the world’s greatest singers.

Productions

Pablo Sorozabal’s “Katiuska” opens the season with Guillermo Garcia Calvo conducting Ainhoa Arteta, Rocio Ignacio, and Maite Alberola sharing the title role. Carlos Alvarez, Ángel Odena, Jorge de Leon, and Alejandro del Cerro round out the impressive casts.

Performance Dates: Oct. 4-21, 2018

Nancy Fabiola Herrra headlines Miquel Ortega’s “La Casa de Bernarda Alba.” Ruben Fernandez Aguirre conducts an ensemble that also includes Carmen Romeu, Carol Garcia, Luis Cansino, and Belen Elvira.

Performance Dates: Nov. 10-22, 2018

Geronimo Gimenez’s “Maria del Pilar” will be conducted by Oliver Diaz starring Carmen Solis, Iwona Sobotka, Marina Rodriguez-Cusi, Ruben Amoretti, and Damian del Castillo.

Performance Dates: Nov. 30-Dec.2, 2018

Luis Cansino and Valeriano Lanchas headline Joaquin Gaztambide’s “El Sueno de Una Noche de Verano.” Miguel Angel Gomez-Martinez conducts Raquel Lojendio, Maria Rey-Joly, Beatriz Diaz, and Sandra Ferrandez.

Performance Dates: Jan. 25-Feb. 10, 2019

Francisco Asenjo Barbieri’s “El Barbarillo de Lavapies” returns with a cast that includes Borja Quiza, David Oller, Cristina Faus, Ana Cristina Marco, Maria Miro and Cristina Toledo. Jose Miguel Perez-Sierra conducts.

Performance Dates: March 28-April 14, 2019

Sabina Puertolas and Elena Sancho-Pereg share the title role in Amadeo Vives’ “Dona Francisquita.” Ismael Jordi, Jose Luis Sola, Ana Ibarra and Lorena Valero also star. Oliver Diaz conducts.

Performance Dates: May 14-June 2, 2019

Concerts

Carlos Alvarez will offer a solo concert while Virginia Tola, Maria Jose Montiel, Juan Jesus Rodriguez, and Ramon Tebar will team up for a Christmas concert. Vivica Genaux and Ainhoa Arteta will also participate in special concert performances. Teresa Berganza will also offer a masterclass.

Recitals 

A number of international singers will grace the stage in recital including Christian Gerhaher, Ekaterina Semenchuk, Franz-Josef-Selig, Adrienne Pieczonka, Ainhoa Arteta, Dorothea Roschmann, Sarah Connolly, Bernarda Fink, Andre Schuen, Thomas Quastoff, Florian Boesch, and Michael Schade.
