Callas in Concert Program Revealed

By David Salazar

BASE Hologram has revealed the program for “Callas in Concert,” which will begin its tour on Sept. 23, 2018 in Sacramento.

The set list was passed along to OperaWire and will feature a hologram of the diva performing original recordings that have been digitally remastered. She will be accompanied by a 50-piece orchestra.

Callas is set to sing a total of eight numbers, as well as two encores. The eight numbers will kick off with “Je veux vivre” from “Roméo et Juliette,” which will be followed by “Vieni t’affretta” from Verdi’s “Macbeth.”

The Habañera and Card Aria from “Carmen” are next up on the set before Callas returns to “Macbeth” for the famed sleepwalking scene.

Catalani’s “Ebben ne andrò lontano from “La Wally” will follow with the Mad Scene from Thomas’ “Hamlet” the last piece before intermission. Callas will close out the concert with “Suicidio” from “La Gioconda,” before taking on two encores, arguably her two most famous aria interpretations of all time (we won’t reveal them here to keep them a surprise).

There will also be four orchestral pieces including the overture to “La Gazza Ladra,” the prelude to “Carmen,” the Prelude to Act four of “La Wally” and the Prelude to Act four of “La Gioconda.”
