C Major to Record Anna Netrebko’s ‘Aida’ From Salzburg Festival

By David Salazar

C Major has revealed that it will be recording a performance of “Aida” from this summer’s Salzburg Festival. The company put up the recording information for the production on its website.

Why is this important? Because it hints at the possibility of the performance being released on DVD at a later date. And of course, these performances from Salzburg will feature soprano Anna Netrebko in her role debut as the Ethiopian princess.

The performances will feature Riccardo Muti in the pit with Francesco Meli as Radamès, Ekaterina Semenchuk as Amneris, Luca Salsi as Amonasro and Dmitry Belosselskiy as Ramfis.

The production will be directed by Shirin Neshat.

Netrebko is on a role at this moment making her role debut as “Adriana Lecouvreur” a few weeks back and soon to take on her first “Tosca.” The soprano’s upcoming “Aida” is considered one of the big events of the summer and will now garner all the major spotlight with Jonas Kaufmann’s “Otello,” the other big event of the summer, a thing of the past in a few weeks time.

Netrebko and Muti had a fruitful collaboration a few years ago when the soprano sang her first “Manon Lescaut” with the legendary conductor.
