C Major has announced the release of Verdi’s “I Due Foscari” with Plácido Domingo from the Teatro alla Scala.

The new release stars Francesco Meli and Anna Pirozzi and is conducted by Michele Mariotti. Staged by Alvis Hermanis, the production received rave reviews when it premiered in 2016. The Financial Times wrote, “Plácido Domingo is the definitive Francesco of recent times” and also noted that Pirozzi “wins hearts and minds through fearsome dramatization and thrilling vocal power.”

The DVD marks the second commercial DVD of this opera with Domingo and Meli. Last year Opus Arte released the performance from the Royal Opera House where Maria Agresta joined the two leads with Antonio Pappano in the pit.

This summer Domingo is performing the opera in a concert version at the Salzburg Festival where he is scheduled to sing it alongside Joseph Calleja and Guanqun Yu.
