Earlier today it was announced that Sonya Yoncheva would no longer be singing in “La Clemenza di Tito” at Baden Baden and that she would be replaced by Marina Rebeka. But now the Bulgarian soprano has also canceled a run of “La Traviata” in Munich.

Yoncheva will be replaced by Diana Damrau, who has turned into one of the iconic Violetta interpreters of today. The German soprano is slated to take on the famed courtesan to open a new production at the Metropolitan Opera in 2018-19.

For Yoncheva, the cancelation is yet another in a long-list of such instances this year. She canceled part of her baroque tour earlier this year after having also withdrawn from a production of “Eugene Onegin” in Paris this month because she no longer identified with the role. She also withdrew from a run of “Manon” at the Opera de Monte Carlo in January due to health-related issues.

She recently announced that she would take on the title role in Puccini’s “Tosca” at the Metropolitan Opera, forcing her to withdraw from a run of “Faust” in Vienna. But her constant cancelations throughout the first half of 2017 are increasingly becoming a point of concern about the soprano’s ability to fulfill all of her commitments, particularly with three contrasting roles coming to the Met next season.
