Breaking: Diana Damrau & Olga Pudova Replace Aleksandra Kurzak At The Bayerische Staatsoper

Aleksandra Kurzak has canceled her participation at the Bayerische Staatsoper’s performances of Offenbach’s “Les Contes d’Hoffmann.”

The soprano will be replaced by Diana Damrau and Olga Pudova. Damrau will sing the roles of Stella, Giulietta, and Antonia while Pudova will be performing Olympia.

Damrau opened the Richard Jones’ production back in 2011 singing all four roles with Rolando Villazon. She has since only performed Antonia at the Los Angeles Opera angoois next slated to make role debuts as “Maria Stuarda” in Donizetti’s work as well as Marguerite in Gounod’s “Faust.” She will also sing the title role of “Lucia di Lammermoor” and “La Traviata” at the Bayerische Staatsoper.

Pudova is slated to perform the Queen of the Night next season at the Opera Philadelphia, Opera comique and Opera di Roma.

Kurzak returns to the stage in September October for her role debut as Alice Ford in Verdi’s “Falstaff” at the Opera National de Paris.
