BR-Klassik To Broadcast ‘Lohengrin’ At Bayreuth

The Bayreuth Festival is set to broadcast the opening night performance of “Lohengrin” on July 25, 2018.

BR-Klassik will broadcast the new production by Yuval Sharon, which is set to open the prestigious festival. The production will star Piotr Beczala in his Bayreuth Festival debut as well Anja Harteros, who is also appearing at the festival for the first time in her career. Waltraud Meier returns to the festival after 18 years, marking her farewell to the role of Ortrud and the festival. Georg Zeppenfeld and Tomasz Konieczny round out the cast, which will be conducted by Christian Thielemann.

The production is part of this year’s festival, which will also see revivals of “Tristan und Isolde,” “Parsifal,” Der Fliegende Holländer,” “Die Walküre,”  “and “Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg.” The festival runs from July 25 through August 29, 2018.

The performance begins at 4 p.m. local time and 10 AM ET.
