When it comes to versatility, few have more than baritone Iurii Samoilov, who feels just as comfortable in Britten as he does in Rossini. His talents will be on display at the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World competition this summer.

Short Bio

The baritone, who hails from Ukraine, received his master’s degree with honors from the National Music Academy, where he studied with Roman Mayboroda. He undertook postgraduate studies at the Dutch National Opera Academy and became a member of the Opera Studio Nederland in Amsterdam. Other academies that he has been a part of include the Solti Te Kanawa Academy, the Accademia Rossiniana, Mozart Academy and the Young Singers Project in Salzburg.

Major Performances and Roles

His repertoire is quite expansive and includes “La Bohème,” “Don Giovanni,” “Le Nozze di Figaro,” “Eugene Onegin,” “Wozzeck,” “Gianni Schicchi,” “Carmen,” “The Gambler,” “Lucia di Lammermoor,” “Billy Budd,” “Così fan tutte,” “Peter Grimes,” and “La Cenerentola,” among many others.
