BBC Cardiff Singer Of The World Competition 2017 Preview: Italy’s Roberto Lorenzi Looking To Make Nation Proud

Italy has a long history of great Italian singers. Roberto Lorenzi will look to cement his place in that legacy when he competes in the 2017 BBC Cardiff Singer of the World competition this summer.

Short Bio

Lorenzi’s studies took place at the Luigi Boccherini Institute of Musical Studies in Lucca, Italy. He took part in the 2013 Salzburg Festival Young Singers Project and currently studies with American singing teacher Sherman Lowe.  He also won the first prize in the AsLico competition for young singers. The victory earned him an opportunity to perform the role of Don Basilio in “Il Barbiere di Siviglia” in Lombardy.

Major Performances & Roles

The bass has had a great career. At just 22, he made his debut at La Scala in Franco Zeffirelli’s production of “La Bohème” alongside Anna Netrebko and Angela Gheorghiu. He also performed regularly at the Opera Zürich in such operas as “I Capuleti e i Montecchi,” “Medée,” “Otello,” and “Orlando Paladino.” He has also performed in Lille and Amsterdam.
