Ezgi Karakaya is a rising star in her native Turkey, and she is poised to reach an even higher stage in her career when she competes at the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World Competition this summer.

Short Bio

 The mezzo-soprano entered the Anadolu University State Conservatory in 2005 and graduated with first-class honors five years later. In 2016 she won the top prize in the 9^th National Young Soloist Competition’s professional category in Izmir and was given a special prize: the chance to join a master class at the Savonlinna Music Academy and to study with Professor Konrad Jarnot.

Major Performances & Roles

 She has been a fixture at the Turkish State Opera in Ankara, where she has performed such roles as Clarina (“La Cambiale di Matrimonio”), Giannetta (“L’Elisir d’Amore”), Volpino (“Lo Speziale”), Giovanna (“Rigoletto”), Prince Orlofsky (“Die Fledermaus”), Suzuki (“Madama Butterfly”), Mercedes (“Carmen”), Enrichetta di Francia (“I Puritani”), Czipra (“Der Ziguenerbaron”), Flora (“La Traviata”), Metella (“La Vie Parisienne”), and Geneviève (“Pellèas et Mèlisande”).
