BBC Cardiff Singer of the World 2017 Preview: Tenor Batjargal Bayarsaikhan To Thrill With Versatile Repertoire

Batjargal Bayarsaikhan is going to get people pumped at the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World Competition. The 27-year-old tenor is among the few that can jump from “Il Trovatore” and “Carmen” to some of the more challenging Bel Canto operas. With such a wide range at this young age, he seems primed for a lengthy career as a versatile artist.

Short Bio: The Mongolian tenor was born in Ulanbator. His vocal studies took place at the Mongolian University of Arts and Culture where he graduated with honors. During his time there, he studied with Professors D. Bandi and D. Gankhuyag. From there he made a huge impact at a number of competitions, including the Tsevegjav Purevdorj International Competition in Ulaanbaatar, the Baikal Opera International Competition, the 25th Glinka International Vocal Contest in Moscow, and the International Singing Competition of Toulouse, among others.

Major Roles and Performances

At the State Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet of Mongolia, he has become a prominent soloist performing lead roles in such operas as “Carmen,” “Il Trovatore,” “La Traviata,” “Lucia di Lammermoor,” and “Prince Igor.”

He also appeared at the Gala Concert at the Bolshoi Theatre in 2014 and is slated to take on “La Bohème” and “Madama Butterfly in upcoming seasons.
