By Francisco Salazar

The Bayerische Staatsoper has announced a cast change for its “Opera for all concert” on Sept. 17, 2021.

The company noted that “due to an illness Jonas Kaufmann was forced to cancel his appearance at this concert.” As a result, Piotr Beczala will sing in his stead.

In a statement, Beczala said, “I am very happy to be on stage so spontaneously together with Ekaterina Semenchuk and the Bayerisches Staatsorchester, conducted by Vladimir Jurowski.”

The evening will be presented in Ansbach and will mark the opening concert for the 2021-22 season. The program will include music by Verdi, Wagner, Strauss, Britten, Cilea, and Shostakovich.

This season Beczala is set to perform in a production of “Il Trovatore” at the Opernhaus Zurich and will open a new production of Rigoletto” at the Metropolitan Opera.

Kaufmann returns to the stage at the end of September for “La Forza del Destino” in Munich.
