Baritone Lucia Lucas & Three Latin American Maestros To Make History In Tulsa Opera 2018-19 Season

The Tulsa Opera has announced its 2018-19 which will feature three operas. Dubbed, “An Era of Inclusion,” it must be noted that each of these productions will feature three conductors from Latin American countries. There is also one massively important casting decision made in this season.

The first of these is “The Barber of Seville” which opens on Oct. 19, 2018. Led by Mexican maestro Roberto Kalb, the production will star baritone Steven LaBrie as Figaro, bass Peter Strummer as Don Bartolo, soprano Sarah Coburn as Rosina, and tenor Aaron Blake as Almaviva.

Performances: Oct. 19, 21, 2018

“The Little Prince” follows up the season in February. Rachel Portman’s opera will star Kristee Haney and Christine Taylor Price. Colombian conductor Lina Gonzalez-Granados leads the production.

Performance Dates: Feb. 15, 17, 2019

The season comes to a close with Mozart’s “Don Giovanni” which will make history as it will feature the U.S. debut of female baritone Lucia Lucas. It will mark the first time that a transgender woman performs a principal role on an operatic stage in the U.S. Lucas will star as the title character in the opera alongside Karlye Whitt as Donna Anna, Pamela Armstrong as Donna Elvira, and Christine Taylor as Zerlina. Uruguayan Andrés Cladera conducts alongside Denni Sayers, who will direct the production.
