Barbara Hannigan, Cecilia Bartoli, Piotr Beczała & Joyce DiDonato Among International Opera Award Nominees

The International Opera Award nominations have bee announced.

The organization, which seeks to recognize the best of the industry recognizes 18 categories.

This year the nominees for Female Singer are Malin Byström, Carmen Giannattasio, Barbara Hannigan, who recently won the Grammy, Hui He, Ermonela Jaho and Eva-Maria Westbroek.

In the Male Singer category, Piotr Beczała is nominated alongside Günther Groissböck, Peter Mattei, Eric Owens, Simone Piazzola and Michael Spyres.

The Opera Company category will see the Bayerische Staatsoper, La Fenice, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Oper Graz, Opera North and the Teatro Real compete.

The nominated conductors are Marc Albrecht, Daniele Gatti, Vladimir Jurowski, Fabio Luisi, Kazushi Ono, and Simone Young

Meanwhile, the Readers’ Award, which is voted on by the public, will see an all-star line up competing for the award including Cecilia Bartoli, Joyce DiDonato, Bryan Hymel, Ambrogio Maestri, Karita Mattila, René Pape, Luca Pisaroni, and Pretty Yende.

Other nominees include David McVicar, Charles Edwards, Florida Grand Opera, Bayerische Staatsoper and David Hertzberg. 

The awards ceremony will take place on April 9, 2018, at the London Coliseum.
