On Dec. 14 Mexican tenor Arturo Chacon-Cruz and Spanish soprano Davinia Rodríguez will inaugurate the Teatro Ingenio de los Mochis in Sinaloa.

The new theater will be dedicated to promoting the best of theater, opera and the arts in Sinaloa. According to Chacon-Cruz, the  program will include music from Puccini and Verdi. However, he did add that the program will also have French and Spanish music as well as some Mexican hits. Angel Rodriguez will accompany the two singers on piano.

Chacon-Cruz noted in an interview that he is excited to see the opening of a theater especially because the stage is an opera singer’s cathedral and now a days theaters are not being constructed.

The concert is part of an inaugural series that also includes Broadway star Bianca Marroquin in a special night of Broadway hits and a play about Winston Churchill.

Chacon-Cruz is a rising star in the opera world as he has performed around the world and this season is scheduled to sing Verdi’s “La Traviata” in a new production by film director Sofia Coppola in Valencia and Rome. He will also sing the role of Rodoflo in Puccini’s “La Boheme” in San Francisco Opera and Berlioz’s “La Damnation de Faust” at the Bolshoi Opera.

Rodriguez replaces the originally scheduled soprano Ailyn Perez. Rodriguez is a rising star who recently had a breakout with Placido Domingo in Verdi’s “Macbeth” at the Theatre Wien. She is scheduled to appear in Bilbao this season in the role of Elvira in Mozart’s “Don Giovanni” and will also appear in San Carlo in Verdi’s “Simon Boccanegra” as Amelia.
