On Jan. 1 Fabio Luisi, one of the leading conductors of Italian operas, will lead the New Year’s concert from the Teatro La Fenice in Venice.

The first part of the concert will include Ludwig van Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7 and will be followed by an intermission. The second part will be dedicated to great operatic repertoire and will include soprano Rosa Feola and tenor John Osborn. The section will include music from Verdi’s “La Traviata,” “Otello” and “Nabucco” as well as music from Donizetti’s “La Fille du Regiment” and “Don Pasquale.” Music from Bellini and Rossini will also be included.

The second part will be broadcast on ARTE throughout the world.

Luisi recently concluded his tenure with the Metropolitan Opera as the Principal Conductor and he is the Music Director for the Zurich Opera House.

Feola studied at the Conservatory in Rome and became internationally known when she won several prizes at Plácido Domingo’s opera singing contest Operalia in 2010, including the Public Prize and the Zarzuela Prize. She gave her opera debut under the direction of Kent Nagano at the Accademia Santa Cecilia. Since then, she has performed at the Rome Opera, Teatro La Fenice, Glyndebourne and the Dresden Semperoper.

Osborn is one of the world’s most recognized lyric tenors and is best known for his work in Rossini. He studied in masterclasses under Hermann Prey, Régine Crespin and Carlo Bergonzi. In 1996 he won the first prize at the Operalia concert and since then has sung at the world’s leading theaters. He recently sang the role of Arnold in Rossini’s “Guillame Tell” at the Metropolitan Opera and at the Royal Opera House in London.
