By Francisco Salazar

Aprile Millo returns to the stage this summer in July.

The legendary soprano will give a recital on July 5 at the Teatro degli Avvaloranti with music from Strauss, Verdi, Puccini and Rachmaninoff. Millo will be joined by soprano Maria Vetere and tenor Joel Ricci. Vicenzo Scalera will accompany them on the piano.

In her blog, Millo noted, “I also am so proud to present two extraordinary young singers, the lush velvet voice of a true Italian beauty by way of Canada, Maria Vetere and the handsome honey-colored tenor of Joel Ricci.”

Millo is one of the dramatic spinto sopranos of her time and has performed all over the world. However, she made a huge career at the Metropolitan Opera where performed alongside Plácido Domingo and Luciano Pavarotti. Among her signature role were “Un Ballo in Maschera,” “Luisa Miller,” “Aida,” “La Gioconda,” “Andrea Chénier,” “Il Trovatore” and “I Lombardi alla Prima Crociata.” She also performed in Puccini’s “Tosca,” Cilea’s “Adriana Lecouvreur” and Verdi’s ‘La Forza del Destino.”

Other theaters where she has performed include Frankfurt, Barcelona, Parma, Rome, Bologna, Torino, the Arena of Verona, The Baths of Caracalla, Cincinnati Opera, Munich, Berlin, Vienna, Zurich, Paris, Orange, Moscow, Seville, Bilbao, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Santiago, Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, and La Scala.
